If you don't have to sacrifice anything to live by your value, that's not your value

This needs to stop.

It won't stop if we talk about it.

Talk is cheap.

We were so busy making money, we broke our planet.

We are risking the very survival of our children, seeking glory.

We are taking radical positions that ruin the fabric of our society.

Do you know all those corporate values, proudly displayed on the walls in the headquarters of big companies? It took me 20 years to learn this one thing: if you don't have to sacrifice anything to live by a value, that's not your value. If it doesn't hurt, if it doesn't cost you anything, it's just blah-blah.

“If you don't have to sacrifice anything to live by your value, that's not your value”

Seven years ago, a creative company was born, built on kindness, as a central value; what a weird thing for a creative place. Not disruption. Not success. Not glory. Not awards. Kindness, of all things.

From the very beginning, the Heraldist brotherhood promised to invest 10% of our time in projects that would benefit the community. Pretty crazy thing, we were about to find out. Our stubbornness almost got as bankrupt.

But I learned that you can't be the change you want to see in the world unless you're very specific about what kind of change you want to be part of; "Save the planet" sounds nice, coming from politicians and songwriters, but it won’t save the planet.

“Save the planet" sounds nice…but it won’t save the planet”

Be specific.

The only way to actually make this little planet 0,1% better is to be specific about what kind of change you want to be part of.

We believe in kindness.

And we are sacrificing things to live by this value.

What do you believe in?
